Good idea to be thinking, planning and saving in advance. We went in 2005 with our two boys and spent a lot of time working out the options and saving. We went with another family and booked 4 bed villa with pool close to the parks and this worked out great - not too expensive about 400.00 (uk pounds per week) then we booked flights and car separate. The park passes cost about 1000.00 for the four of us (Disney hopper and universal flex ticket) We were there for three weeks and did all the parks but it was exhausting. We're going back in March and have got a good deal with a tour op called Jetsave, its costing 2200.00(pounds) for the 4 of us, flights, car and a 3 bed villa with pool. You might get a good deal at a disney or universal hotel or one of the many hotels on International Drive but we prefer a villa as you have the option to eat in (even if its only breakfast or an evening bbq) which saves money and its good to take a day off and chill by your own pool. Spending money is tricky to gauge as there is so much to buy. Its great for shopping (trainers, jeans, designer stuff all at the outlet centres) and the merchandising in the parks is massive - you have to decide how much you are going to let your kids have and stick to it as nearly everytime you get off a ride you exit into a shop selling related stuff. Hope this is some help, its worth saving for, you will have the best time ever!

Your best bet is to get everything you need as far as hotel and theme park tickets taken care of then try and figure out what you will spend on food and other entertainment. My parents when we were younger would bring $1000 spending money and that was sufficient I don't know about now. For the last few years we have been renting rental homes and have saved alot of money doing this we go in on the house with a few other people and it ends up being cheaper having a big house with a pool then it would be to stay in a hotel, and we have our own private pool and we can cook at home so it saves alot of money.

Your biggest problem if you are staying on site is going to be choosing a resort. Most on site resorts only allow 4 people in each room. The exception to this is Port Orleans Riverside in the Alligator Bayou section. They have a trundle bed so you will be able to accommodate 5 people. Surf the web at sites like mousesavers.com for discounts or AllEarsNet.com for ANY questions you may have related to Walt Disney World (Florida). They can probably give you a better idea how much everything will cost.

I am so happy to hear that you are going to save money rather then just putting it on a credit card to be paid off later. I would suggest that you save about $4,000 -$5,000 for hotel, food, tickets, souveniers etc. You can save money by buying your tickets at AAA and by staying at one of the Disney budget hotels. Try to avoid traveling during national holidays.(more crowds).
1.Make your priority seating reservations as soon as possible. Most of the restaurants accept them 180 days from the first day of your vacation. You are aloud to start calling at 7:00 am. Start dialing at 6:58 am and keep hitting redial until you are through. You might even want to call ahead of time and write down the number sequence that you have to punch in. You can get through to a real person faster that way. For instance Cinderella’s Castle usually books up by 7:05am. Call (407) WDW-DINE and ask them the exact date that you can call.
2. I would suggest that you buy the park hopper pass, because I try never to stay at the Magic Kingdom after 11:30am. I get there when they open. The opening celebration is really neat. They sometimes open early for Disney Hotel Guests. Check on line for the extra magic hours. You can find them at www.Disney.com. I go directly to the rides that my kids want to ride. We may pick up a Fast Pass on the way. If you have more adults then kids then you can spread out your fast passes. (pick up more than 1 ride at a time, One adult with each child). For instance my daughter loves the Honey Pots so we go directly there sometimes at 7:00 am. We never have a line. Sometimes they even let us ride 2 or three times without getting out of our car.
3.Mickey’s Toon Town Fair usually opens later then the park. You will have Minnie’s House and Mickey’s House practically to yourself. And no line to see Mickey.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful time at Disney World!
Oh check out www.allearsnet.com... It will answer many of your questions!!!

Count on at least £500/week/child and £750/week/adult to have a good time with no worries, obviosly it can be done cheaper and more expensive but that should give you a good starting point.
If you try to do it too cheaply you will end up counting the pennies instead of having fun.
