I have two answers to your question.

Normal answer:
Ionizing radiations are forms of energy strong enough to remove electrons from their atoms. Ultraviolet light can do that. So can Alpha radiation (helium nuclei) and Beta radiation (other electrons) or many other particles, such as muons or neutrons.

How do you protect a spaceship from UV? Try sunblock. The same you use at the beach.
How do you protect a spaceship form alpha particles? Use a sheet of paper. It’s dense enough to stop nuclei.
How do you protect it from other cosmic rays? The denser the material, the better.

Second answer:
Wid da same stuff we’d protet da readers in dis site from becumming exposed to dis kinda lethal English radiation.
