If it is that he's not the father of one or both of them I don't understand why Shirley would be using that to blackmail him. Surely it only makes her look even worse, and him a good guy for raising them in the first place? Surely it must be a bigger secret than that?

That he is not there real dad and he got with Shirley after they had an affair which lead to him killing there real dad by mistake.
(Tryed to push the real dad off him, cause the real dad was trying to choke him in the kitchen and the real dad fell back and landed on a knife and died)
