he has been tireless in his efforts lobbying the worlds leaders to help fight aids and to give the african continent a level playing field when it comes to trade, despite wether you love his music or hate it,or of he seems to have an inflated ego you have to admire his work and comitment to those without hope in africa, hes been considered before for this award but personally i hope he gets it this year as he would use it to further help these countries, a good man at heart in my opinion, unlike other celebs who do nothing but flaunt thier wealth and spend there time acting like divas and partying.

There are people who have done a great deal more for Africa than Bono and Bob.

In my opinion absolutely not.
He certainly seems a contradiction - a do as I say not as I do type of individual.
Only he can say how sincere & genuine he is.
If he wrote all the U2 songs especially around the Joshua Tree period, then he's got some talent. If the songs were purchased , borrowed or written by a ghost writer as some have suggested, that would indeed be a betrayal.
Leaving Ireland for tax reasons (or to avoid tax) when he wants the taxpayers to pay third world debt? Would that be a contradiction? Hypocritical? Maybe.
Accepting honours from Tony Blair & then singing the awful Sunday Bloody Sunday & making out he's a real true Irishman?
Is that a betrayal?
Love him or hate him, he's a guy with a big ego & friends in high places. So he could get a further award - he has the luck of the devil for sure.
He is supposedly a contributor to Yahoo & Bono could & should contribute an answer himself.
AFRICA. Please see the website below to decide how much of a difference he has made.
The people on the ground, who donated money to LIVE 8 and so on whilst Bono & Geldof etc made huge amounts in royalties, are trying & have done their bit but it isn't easy, especially when so much money is misappropriated or used by corrupt regimes.
Live & let live, help where you can & do what you think is right - that's how we all should be.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt but not a Nobel Prize!

He's been nominated already... twice in fact. He was nominated in 2003 and again in 2005. He is rumored to be on this years list of nominees as well.

I have no problem with his nomination and think that although a lot of cynics get a little weary whenever a celebrity starts to stand behind causes, Bono certainly puts his money AND his actions where his mouth is. Whether or not he'll ever WIN a Nobel Prize is another matter entirely. He is a celebrity and he carries with him everything rediculous about the job of being a celebrity... including having only one name, wearing sunglasses everywhere he goes, dressing like a rock-star even if it's while he's with the Pope or the President of the United States and of course, the whole "Unos Dos Tres Catorce" thing which still makes no sense. The question is, will the world ever be able to take a celebrity seriously enough to thoroughly respect him or her for charitable works. Judging from many of the answers to this question... probably not.

i'm pagan and performance no PhD's as after 4 years of faculty (which become preceded by technique of 12 years of state mandated education) i become waiting to be out of the faculty room and start up interpreting existence. I must have an honorary PhD contained in the faculty of demanding knocks.

He would win more admirers if he were to turn his attention to exposing the corruption in those African dictatorships which is the major cause of poverty in that continent

No, he'd be too busy being driven to his private jet by limosine to pick it up. He's an arsehole, doesn't live in the real world.
