I know what this is like. He probably feels much happier, secure and special when he's with you than he does at school where he's just one of the crowd. He's probably more mentally mature than most kids and regards them as 'childish'. Poor little guy. I do feel sorry for him and for you. Is home schooling an option you can look at? Maybe not forever, but just at this stage. If not, can you talk to his teacher and see what he/she can do to help?

oh, the poor little man! My guess is that he has had a very negative experience that he isnt able to talk about-could be something as innocent as something he saw on a tv show! Take him for a nice walk somewhere, talk about happy things, then gently bring up the topic that sometimes kids are not too nice. Just bring it up lightly, and ask him if he has ever known kids that were not nice, and see what comes out. Keep it light,,,,,,he might let you know his fears if he is feeling safe and loved. I am shocked at the way the cartoons and stuff are loaded with obnoxious children! Even 1st grade school books depict violent children. I suspect he just does not feel safe. Pat the little fellow on the head and let him know how proud you are of him, no matter what.........

I was the same way when I was his age. Don't worry in time he will learn to come around and interact with his age group.
