password protect your xp account. then right click the file to be protected. go on prperties. in the attribute section tick encrypt.and voila
but before back up your certificates

You can add a user with a password. Then save your file under that user's account. When some other user (not the administrator) try accessing the file or directory by clicking it :, they need to enter the password.

You could use WinZip and password protect the archive it creates.

most Zip applications allow you to password zip folders... check your zip software, or you can download them for free - search google or try www.downloads.com
