Which do you want to do more, play the flute or be in the marching band?

If you meet with your band director, he or she can work with you to find out what instrument would be the easiest for you to play. (This depends on the shape of your mouth and hands/fingers, and coordination level.) You can also find out what instruments are needed the most in the band. (Often band directors will take anyone who can blat out a sound out of a low brass instrument, such as tuba, trombone, or baritone.)

If you choose to play the instrument that is BEST suited to your individual talents, and you practice 10 minutes EVERY SINGLE DAY...you will likely be far ahead of the average high school marching band student. (Unfortunately, not many students actually practice...which makes those who do be at a distinct advantage.)

I have had friends who wanted to learn an instrument later in their school years (junior year in high school, even as a freshman in college!) who have done quite well with just a small amount of CONSISTENT practice.

Good luck - and it is quite easy if you get the correct instrument for you. (I've taught beginning band for 10 years, and every time a student goes against my recommendations for an instrument...strangely enough, the results are poor!)

It depends on the level of your band. If your MB is very experienced and has musicians who are proficient at their instrument(s), then you'll have your work cut out for you, and it might take you a few years. However, if your band is at a beginning level or the director will let you in with minimal experience, you might be able to get in with less than a year of practice. It also depends on how fast you learn. So e-mail the conductor/teacher and see what his requirements are. Good luck! Marching band is awesome :)

well it takes A REALLY LONG TIME!
my friends arn't even that good yet and have played for 3 yrs. already!
so frankly my friend, i don't think you have a good chance learning it within a few months. unless you really try.
cause i don't personly know if you work hard at things or not.
so you can give it a try i gess

I can't tell you. Every person is different as far as musical ability. You should at least try for it tho.
