~~ Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about scenery on the trip north.
You are going to one of the prettiest places in the US.
The Great Smoky Mountains are just perfect!
(But do stay off the interstates, if you want leisurely and pretty.)

~~ Might I suggest you purchase a book-size Rand McNally atlas they have scenic routes marked on them.

~~ Make your way up through Georgia; staying away from I75 (skirting Atlanta) and into western NC.
You'll find the far north of Atlanta very forested and quite lovely.

~~ Though quite a nice drive, I wouldn't use H17 at all.
Unless you particularly wanted to, there is no need to go into SC.

~~ Safe trip.
