I would says that they have the potential to make much more than regualr MDs. My friend has an MD and makes way more working for a pharmaceutical co. than private practice. Then there is that guy I forget his name but he is an MD and the head of United Health care and he makes millions each year.Look

I do not know any private practice practioner or hospitalist earning that type of money. Plus to be honest looking at the way health care is right now....reimbursements are not really keeping pace with inflation, sometimes re-imbursements actually are decreased by these insurance co. Plus it is not worth the stress and liability because there is increasing pressure on docs to see more and more patients quicker. Now some docs are making money doing concierge medicine which is cash and less stressful, but there are only certain areas of the country where that is feasible. At least as an MD in corp. america your hours will be more regular and at least you get to develop more job skills that will allow you to move into different aspects of business if you want to move out of healthcare. As just an MD if you rpactice for many years all you know how to do is treat patients. If that falls out, what other job skills have you developed and then when you apply for some jobs you have no skills or they will not higher you because of your degree they may say you are over qulified, or underqulified because of job skills. to be honest most of the MDs in private practice whether specialist or not are just doing ok but some are getting crushed because of the practice climate and are forced to close their practice
