The hospital i used to work at would give a 50% chance to a baby born at 29 weeks provided they were at 29 weeks in growth, weight etc & also that they have access to health care facilities that have the technology to maintain life at that tender age.

It's actually a really good chance.
In fact, 22 Weeks is probably the earliest a fetus could survive. At 25 weeks there is a 50% survival rate, at 29 weeks its 95%.
Of course this is dependent in the local medical facilities, but at 29 weeks you really are quite safe provided the labour has occured due to non life-threatning reasons.
In my mothers group there are two women with premature babies; one was born at 30 weeks and the other at 34. Both babies are doing wonderfully, so i feel pretty confident in saying you can relax!

Actually nowadays pretty good. Although it would spend it's first month (probably) in a nicu the survival rate is pretty good. That is why in the U.S. late term abortions can not be performed past the 24th week. Because many are actually born alive. They can be done in other countries and in the cases where the fetus IS viable they actually DO murder the "newborn".

29 weeks is 7 months right? that really depends. usually the baby's internal organs form during the 2 trimester of pregnancy, and the last trimester 7 to 9 months are intended to develop fully those organs. the baby may survive but with defects... like he or she may be mental retard, may have heart problems..but if the baby is incubated for 3 months then maybe the baby would live a normal life.
