I have a questions. What ammount of heat does a hamster need to have?

I just got a new hamster for my 15th birthday resent for my sister and it has to stay int my room. Its a plastic/barred cagfe and my room gets cold at night.

I dont want anything happening cause shes somewhat of a baby and it took m hours to finally name her so shes really specail to me. (Her name is smore because shes dark brown like the chocolete tan like the gram-cracker and white like the marshmellow)

I dont want her getting sick cause she gets to cold or anything. What should I do to make sure shes okay during the night while I sleep?

I have to recommend NOT covering it with a blanket. You have a wire cage and if you cover it with a blanket the hamster will chew on the blanket and could either ingest the fibers (which will cause a problem if the fibers are synthetic) or get their feet tangled in the treads. The same can happen with any of the nesting material they sell in the stores. The best nesting material is strips of unscented toilet paper or tissues.

Hamsters have been known to hibernate at 60 degrees. I have had a few hibernate before. It's the hamsters in the colder part of the room that do it first which is my cue to turn on the space heater. I heat the room the hamsters are in to 72 degrees.

The most harmful thing for her would be severe changes in temperature. Some people have said to use a heating pad under the cage but this could easily overheat her. Perhaps if you don't want to leave a space heater on until things warm up, you can put a heating pad under half of her cage. This way she can move on and off the heat source as she pleases. You need to take safety precautions when using the heating pad of course.

I would say to turn up the furnace a little bit at night and put a blanket over her cage. I you want more advice go talk to the local vet and while you at it, it would also be a good idea to take her in for a check-up, just to make sure she's ok and since she's still a baby you need to take extra care of her.
Good luck and congrats on your new hammy!!

I used to use cotton stuff that I bought in a pet store and put it in its cage to snuggle in. Make sure whenyou buy it that you spread it out and fluff it so it can go in and nestle up in it. You can also use blankets but make sure you leave at least a little open so that it can breath easy. Also, you can buy a space heater for your room and it runs on little electricity.
If you are confortable without a blanket, or almost confortable then your hamster will be too.
Goodluck!

As long as she is not wet and is out of drafts, she'll be fine. She lives in a fur coat remember. I assume she has a nest box of some sort and newspapers or rags for bedding. It wouldn't hurt to cover her cage with a blanket or towel at night.
Good name!

Put her in the warmest area of the room. Not against a source of heat though, that's too hot. Just provide her with fluffy bedding like a bunch of paper towels and she'll keep herself warm.

it might help if you layer blankets around the outside of the cage so it wont get cold.. i know it wants to see out of the cage but also stuff cloth around the inside..of the cage.. also lay a blanket on top of the cage at night.. keep him away from the coldest wall in your house .. it will be ok..foxi

awww!! cute name!! but my suggestion would be to put a blanket over her cage at night, we do that to my gerbils' cage so they don't get chilled, because my room actually gets kinda hot at night, which gets me hot, so i have to turn my fan on for me, however the blanket method works, because you don't want your baby to get chilled! good luck!
