I am actually going back to school. I was working in health care.. but shift work and kids.. oooiii, not cool. Way stressful on the kids and me! I get regular benefits.. but now in school, I will be purchasing my own. I make ends meet quite easily. I don't get child support though, so I budget. Some weeks we need to budget more then others and things are tight.. and so when we do have a little extra... we will all get brand new clothes and go out to the movies and have a day in the city. We manage quite well and even have quite a few pets. When I was a teachers aide things were really really tight. I budgeted alot then.
To make ends meet I have 2 tricks.. one is to go to the thrift store and get clothes that look totally brand new and that are totally in style and perferably brand name. That saves me hundreds. And another trick that I need to get back into that really puts a halt to nickle and diming... is to NEVER buy anything that is not on your grocery list, never. If you see something you NEED. Then put it on you list for next time. If you want to have some lee way.. then put $10 free spending on your list. I sounds simple... and boy does it cut back lots of money

I'm a full time working mum, I work in an office. My daughter has to go to an after school club. I think the best job would be if you could get one in the school, either as a secretary or class room helper. Most employers are flexible with your times, like if you need to start a little later, or leave earlier, they'll work something out with you. You are entitled, if living in the UK, to working families tax credits and child tax credits. If you do need to have your child cared for after school, the tax credits normally cover this. Hope this helps. x

My neighbour is a single mum and she is a cleaner as it is quite flexible and pays quite well. I don't know the precise entitlements you get, but you certainly will get working tax credits, so you don't have to pay the full amount of tax you would normally have to, as you have a family to support. Good luck.

why not try a job in a school like, dinner lady (they work within school hours, Clerical Assistant start usually at nine and finish at 3pm. This would work round the kids fine. And you get all the same hlidays as them

I am not a single mother, but my partner works at the mines, to make it fit I am doing a teaching degree, so I can be home with the kids when they are home.
