I have this problem and sometimes it gets really bad. What I have to do is repeat positive things over and over. Or everytime I catch myself thinking negatively I have to change my thoughs on the subject to positive ones.

Sometimes, I think negative too. There's no escape to it. It's a nature in each and every human to think negative. I guess the only easy way is to think positive. Because when there is a negative side of things there is positive too. Where there are disadvantages there are advantages too! So basically there is good and bad and positive and negative about everything. While thinking negative, try to see the good and optimistic side of things. This can make u feel better and make u realise that there is sudden glimpse of hope in the darkness of bewilderment.
Like, I am really bad a t maths. Even after studying from a tutor I almost failed in my exam. I kept thinking negatively about what is gonna happen in future! But then I told myself that I am great at other subjects. So what if I am weak in maths. I'll be more devoted and practise and soon achieve good scores. So don't stress urself by thinking negative. Try and see the other good side of things as well.

Suppose you have the bad habit of dwelling too much on the same negative thoughts. And suppose there’s no outward physical manifestation associated to them. It’s just negative thinking, like “I’m so depressed” or “I hate my job” or “I can’t do this” or “I hate being fat.” How do you break a bad habit when it’s entirely in your mind?
There are actually quite a number of ways to decondition a negative thought pattern. The basic idea is to replace the old pattern with a new one. Mentally resisting the negative thought will usually backfire — you’ll simply reinforce it and make it even worse. The more you fire those neurons in the same way, the stronger the pattern becomes.
Here’s a little method I use to break negative thought patterns. It’s basically something I conconcted from a combination of the swish pattern from NLP and a memory technique known as chaining. I usually find the swish pattern alone to be weak and ineffective, but this method works very well for me.
Instead of trying to resist the negative thought pattern, you will redirect it. Think of it like mental kung fu. Take the energy of the negative thought and rechannel it into a positive thought. With a little mental conditioning, whenever the negative thought occurs, your mind will automatically flow into the linked positive thought. It’s similar to Pavlov’s dogs learning to salivate when the bell rang.
how it works:
Turn the negative thought into a mental image.
Select an empowering replacement thought.
Turn the positive thought into a mental image.
Mentally chain the two images together.

You have to realize the falsity of it. Just because you think about life in a certain way, doesn't make it so - even though it seems to be so. The same goes for overly positive thinking. It does not always reflect the true reality of things as they really are.
Your best bet, is to strive for non-positive and non-negative thinking. This can be achieved in a very short period of time by using the art of "focusing on the breath", an ancient Zen technique.
All you have to do, is practice concentrating on the tip of your nose where the air goes in when you breath. Feel it come in, feel it go out. Don't try to control the breathing, just keep your mind concentrated on it like an animal tethered to a stake.
In the beginning it will not be easy. Your mind will readily and easily wander off into abstraction and you will forget that you are supposed to be concentrating on your breath. As soon as you realize that you have wandered off, don't get frustrated or annoyed, but just lightly go right back to the concentrating on the breath. It goes in, it goes out.
The great thing about it is that your breathing is always available to you to use as an object of meditation. Don't do it when you're driving!!! Do it during those "in between" moments when there's nothing particular to do. Don't give your mind the chance to dwell on anything at all. Keep training it like you would train your muscles at the gym. Set aside ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes at night to practice it without distraction. Eventually, you will get so good that nothing will be able to distract you. You will see the essence of your mind as it really is: A completely pure, bright and shining vessel of endless potential.
Negative and positive will melt away, and you will be like a clear sky.
Don't THINK about trying this. Just TRY it.

Basically the negative thinking generates from our lack of confidence in ourselves. It slowly leads to comparisons amongest haves and havenots and further culminates at hateredness, cruelity and violence. To get rid of such bad habits one has to keep himself busy with social service and helping the other tools alongwith his normal work. Another reason for negative thinking comes from ones greediness for things of comfort and enjoyment. This can be controlled by having faith in our capability and resorting to meditation or yoga or other such techniques . Moral teaching and principles of true human being need to be made part of our regular education . Yet another reason for negative thinking seems to be the success of people who adopted illegal and improper tools for achieving the same. For this our socity as a whole has to stand up and socially boycot all such people and help the law enforcing agencies. Therefore, all the responsibility lies on oiur own shoulders to getrid of negative thinking.

just tell urself that u r the best n just remember:
Nothing is permanent in this world, not even our troubles. So, keep on enjoying the life. Don't lose your smile at any moment!
If u can solve ur problem, then what's the need of worrying? If u can't solve it, then what is the use of worrying?
If winter is here, can spring be far behind.

see, when your negative thoughts start coming in your mind then
simply sit where you are and in your mind repeat the word "rammm...." again and again until you think the thought has gone. if you are sitting in a closed room where there is no one around then you may repeat the word loudly, and remember to close your mouth when pronouncing the syllable "mmmmm...". At this moment you wil be able to feel the vibrations of this word and definitely it would relieve you of your negative thoughts. if the thoughts still persist then ask your self a question , " is this what you want , what you want to achieve , do you have time for these worthless thoughts, which restrain you from achieving your goals, is this what you want from life,is this what you really want".
i am sure after this the negative thoughts will vanish.

By realizing from the heart that if we will think like this then it will only affect us and is just a wastage of time.
We must be wise enough to understand that thinking negative will not prove anything positive.
We can get rid by smiling to that situation and thinking that "What Matters", "Forget", "Let it be" or just forget that thing and start singing a beautiful song.
