Im on about the D on the 18 yard line.... what is it there for? i have never heard of any rules that concern the D... is it just there for show?

When a penalty kick is taken, "all players other than the defending goalkeeper and the penalty taker must be outside the penalty area, behind the penalty mark, behind the ball, and at least ten yards from the ball (i.e. outside the penalty arc) until the ball is kicked."

The "penalty arc" is the D.

the D is the closest you can be to the penalty spot when a penalty is taken without going into the box it should make a perfect circle around the penalty spot.??

It's so that everybody(apart from the keeper)is the same distance away from the penalty spot when a penalty is being taken.

the D area is used when a penalty is taken, all other players must stand behind the D area.

everybody is right and did u know that it was a goalie that inveneted the penalty.
