O own every book he has ever written - so hard to decide a favourite. Christine just because it was the first one i read a realized i couldn't put it down. The whole Dark Tower series for fantasy rather than horror. It. Maybe try his short story collection Nightmares and Dreamscapes if you are looking to get into him.

I haven't read a Stephen King book in years, I used to love them. My favourite has to be 'The Shining'. Actually this was the first 'grown up' book I ever read when I was about 12. I stole a copy from my uncle's house and scared myself silly (I love the film also).
I find the later Stephen King books a bit too long though. He seems to concentrate more on character descriptions than actual story content these days.
I still think he is pretty good though!

I loved reading his books, but, yes, he did go on a bit! my fave was Carrie and The green mile. Through reading S. King books I found James Herbert. Now he is my fave author in the world.

I've only recently started reading Stephen King. Have read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon and am in the middle of Rose Madder and have Dolores Clairborn waiting to be read!
And just a recommendation for you - if you like Stephen King you'd probably like Dean Koontz too - I've read Intensity by him which was absolutely brilliant, the only book I've ever read to genuinely get my heart beating faster!

I love his books! I have really tried to choose a favourite but I think that is probably impossible, I have however narrowed it down to:
IT - amazing, very different and always very freaky
Misery - I read this a very long time ago and although it isn't the best story ever I have never forgotten it so that must say something.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - This is simply fantastic, quite clever because it is quit simple but the writing is just brilliant.

I think he can go on a bit but there are definitely some crackers there. 4 Past Midnight (by Richard Bachmann) is my favourite. 4 Stories including the "Running Nam" that was made into a film with Schwarzenegger. The story was much better. However, "The Library Policeman" is VERY eerie.

I'm not keen on him-find his books very slow & tedious, but my girlfriend is a huge fan-her fave is 'From A Buick 8',although I must admit I read 'The Long Walk' recently and enjoyed that.

Love his books, hate the film versions of most of them.
The Dark Tower series are excellent and have to win the prize for the best ending to a fantasy series ever in the world!!
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is one of those books that stays with you long after you have finished it.
The Stand has to be one of the most compelling books ever written by anyone. I stayed up all night to finish it, because I just couldn't bear to put it down!
