It is often said that a lot of canadians do not know their national anthem and actually know america's national anthem better. is this true. this question is for canadians to answer.

I used to know the Canadian anthem way better than I do right now.. I'm pretty sure I would still be able to do most of it..
I don't know any of the American anthem except maybe the first line (is it "oh say can you see"? if not, then I have no clue..).

In my experience most Canadians do know the National Anthem. Being a bilingual country the National Anthem is sung in English or French and sometimes both. This may be why it seems Canadians don't know the National Anthem as most Canadians are not bilingual unfortunately.

I know the older Canadian version. After I left school I've heard they removed the "sons" from the song. We used to sing "God save the Queen" as well in grade school.
I only know the first verse and a few words of the American anthem due to hockey games. I'm not surprised Canadians know a bit of the American anthem as we watch thier movies and TV all the time.

It seems so to me. I'm not even Canadian and I know it because so many of my Canadian friends know it and let me know they know it even when I don't care to know it (maybe those that travel are super proud of were they're from . . . )

Yes I know it. Had to sing it every day in school. I don't think they do that anymore.
