Remember, for the first 6 years of his Presidency, Mr. Bush was protected by a Republican majority in both the House and the Senate, therefore making impeachment an impossibility. Today, under a Democratic majority in both chambers, it will still be difficult to impeach because the majority in the Senate is very slim and one or two defections would prevent conviction even if impeached by the House. Even President Clinton who was impeached by the House still escaped conviction by the Senate even though Republicans held the majority in both the House and the Senate. In addition, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan make it difficult to impeach because the support for the President will be made during a time of war. While I believe President Bush is this country's worst nightmare, he's safe for the remainder of his Presidency.
