Since our childhood we hear that Lion is the mighty king of the jungle!
But isn't a king supposed to be kind, just, approachable, protective to his subjects. Instead its a carnivore and cannot digest vegetative matter. Its a sort of Villian or a terrorist terrorising the jungle, preying upon the weak and helpless (although the lioness does the hunting job!).
Whereas the Elephant is a pachyderm which is strong, disturbs none and is a herbivore. Comparing their strength-- a bull elephant can easily kick the lions butt!!

Yeah I think they are the best of the jungle. They stick by the family not matter what. They all pull together to protect each other. But the Lion is the predator of the jungle. I like elephants.

Every thing you say about the Elephant is true. The reason the Lion is refurred to as the king of the jungle is only because of the structure of the pride. In particular the male lions role in a pride.
There can be only one male in a pride and the male doesn't even hunt 98% of the time. He is there merely for protection from other males who bully the females and endanger their young. The male Lion usually sleeps all day and eats the prey the Liones's kill. The male Lion more or less is treated like royalty, hence "The King Of The Jungle".
If you think about it, most Lions live in the desert or mountains. If there were a king of the jungle it would be the Tiger... the Bengal Tiger. True true, all the cats are blood thirsty carnivores so who would want one as a king.
I could pick one, I would pick the Rhino.... much like the elephant in a lot of ways but it just has that mighty king look to it. And it's like it's wearing a crown.. though an elephant would stomp it out in a fight.... oh well!

I think your right, I LOVE Elephants.
Did you know that they are the only mammal other then humans that cry when they are hurt or upset? They do, it's a fact.
Lion's got the title king of the jungle due to the fact that their mane is crown shaped and they aren't afraid of anything, they don't get timid.
However elephants are more of a peaceful animal, that is why Lion's hold the title.

This reminds me of a joke.
Once all the animals decided to switch to democracy and overthrew the Lion. The new premier after a thoroughly transparent voting was the monkey. Everybody was happy. The very next day some dears came running to monkey saying that the wolves have attacked their heard and are massacaring. The monkey started to swing on the trees. The dears repeated their ordeal, and the monkey continued to swing. The dears repeated the ordeal again and asked him to do somethign immediately. 'Can't you see I am already doing what I can!' was the monkey's reply.
So the King has to be someone influential and powerfull who is not afraid of using his might to amend the things around. And ofcourse who should be approachable when his stomach is full. And this is why we the humans believe that it should be the Lion.
