Mars has been proven to once have had an abundant amount of liquid water on it's surface. It was once similar to Earth. So, what happened to make it the wasteland it is today? Answering that question could help us to better understand our own planet. Also, it is best to not have all your eggs in one basket. In other words if a huge disaster happened on Earth and all human life was eradicated it would be great if there was a colony some place else to continue the species.

you see man feels quite alone in this vast universe.that is why man is looking for company in outer space.because mars is quite far from earth as compared to mars and has harsher climate than the moon, moon is a "stepping stone for mars".humans spent thousands of years exploring the earth and may take twice as many years to explore mars.i hope they find some aliens on mars coz i am feeling alone in this VAST universe!!!

We will eventually use up all our resources here, we need to set up a base away from Earth, and Mars is the only choice, if we have a choice.
