Well this does seem we have our priorities in the wrong place.
but saying that we spend more on Big Macs and Whoopers then we donate money to Africa
We spend more money on sports events then we donate money for Africa.
Iraq war? Drugs either legal or illegal? Building more Starbucks?
What is the answer.
African culture is a lot more older then ours. Once the Egyptian empire was the top dog of the day.
Someday the U.S.A. may suffer the fate of Greece, Egypt, Rome, etc etc..History does repeat itself
Not very many countries have sent us charity over the years and we had some times when we could have used a helping hand.
Charity begins at home.

Thats good. At least the money being spent on doggie treats is staying in America. Why donate money to Africa when we have homeless and starving, and disease infected people right here in the U.S? Those are the people I want to donate for.

The aid agencies are pretty adept at making people feel some sort of guilt in order to get them to make donations to Africa.
The worst thing you can do is donate money to those people, it is demeaning and only gets to the fat cat bastards
in power.
How can you expect people to get off their butts and change their situation if you are continually giving them handouts?

I can't afford to buy store bought treats for my dogs. They get homemade treats. But, I see what you're saying. I hope you're wrong. I think we have all unwittingly sent aid to Africa through different methods. (concert ticket sales, purchases of "RED" products, etc.) I think people honestly try to do what they can.

WHAT?! No way ... I'm slightly embarassed.

Do you have a book or a site or a reference that gives numbers on that? We're actually studying statstics like this in my English class and I'd love to quote it with some proof behind it.

good for you. it's not your responsibility to donate any money to Africa. Those commercials are designed to deceive and tug at your heart strings. don't watch them. cover your eyes when they come on or change the channel.
