It personally feel Ramu's movies are dark and sort of depressing, whereas Sholay was full of colour hope good versus evil and basically Sholay was Sholay, remaking it is a fool's decision even ramesh sippy wouldn't dare it, but you can expect it to come from ram gopal verma. i feel in his sholay, gabbar singh would be highly glorified leaving nothing to do for jai and veeru. also the movie has created so much hype that if its fails in one department also its gonna flop miserably. So it think ramu's sholay will not be hit.

purely as per my opinion, it will meet the fate of those movies u have mentioned
i prefer the good old stuff. SRK was good in DON, but AB was better
