my neighbour has lived in the house for 57yrs & told me the old air raid shelters for the area are in my garden & got covered up i now want to build on the back of my home how do i find out if there are still there as dont how to find out tryed the council offices & the kid was unhelpful please help i have been waiting for help for 3mths

the air raid shelters were never built close to the house because if the house was bombed then it might block the escape exit they built them normally at the end of the garden ..if you did come across some of the shelter while building ..it may cost a bit more to remove ..but to a good builder its not a problem

Either dig a few test holes, or drive a metal rod in the ground.

Just dig a big hole, a couple of meters from the house.

have you got a local historical society or a local museum they may be able to help
