Most of foreign cars today are built here in America by American workers so is that mean driving a Honda or Toyota now make you less than impatriot than driving a Ford or a Chevy? In today economy, most Americans looking forward to dependability, economy and lower insurance costs and a key thing is the price with a good warranties. Its all depend on your needs and what are you need it for! One guy lives accross from my house always drove a big Chevy Tahoe with a 6.9 litre engine 4X4 for years, the reason why he bought the Tahoe because someday he wants to get a boat and tow it around but after two years he decided not to buy the boat because it costs him around $90-105.00 dollars a week for gas on an average just to drive around without towing a boat. Every person has their own opinion about cars and where it makes, this is a free enterprise country, you do what is best for you not by what other people telling you what to do!

And yet Ford has owned and supplied Mazda since the mid 1980's. I will never buy an import. I will Only buy an American built vehicle. I have had nothing but good luck with them. My truck is 18 years old and runs like new, and I've drove it to hell and back (a Ford Ranger). My last car was 20 years old and I drove the **** out of it and it still on the roads, i sold it to a guy i work with and he drives even harder then i did (A Plymouth Caravelle). I have driven many asian cars and they feel like death traps, they look like "an electric razor" and they are uncomfortable to drive. I am a mechanic, and I find myself working on imports more then i do then domestics, aside from anything GM, they break down all the time. I will only buy a Ford or Dodge.

Im american and own only american cars. Ford isnt in trouble, goto their website, you will see a 4.6% gain for 2006 in sales. The Explorer accounts for %36 of all SUV sales in the us, and the best selling SUV for 15 years straight with over 5.5 million sold. The Mustang is the best selling sports car in the US as well. Ford has the best selling trucks in the us as usuall. Dodge has the biggest loss for 2006 then chevy, only ford had a sales profit at the end of the year.

I've got a Ford Focus. It has a couple of plastic trim bits that rattle when it's cold, but its mechanical bits have held up very well. Although you could argue a Focus is actually a German car...
I've owned vehicles from the US, Japan, and even England, and don't really have a favorite when it comes to country of origin. They've all got some good models and some real horrors.

I have a grand cherokee, and drivetrain wise I think it is almost bullet proof, however the accessories I have had many a problem with, windows, seat heaters, radio, ventilation...
my next car will probably be a Toyota 4 Runner ltd, I trust the drive train as much, and I percieve the interior to be better laid out, and more dependable, but would like to have heated and cooled seats rather than just heated.

The car market is not what it used to be. Japanese imports are going to be outselling American made. Ford is in serious trouble with 12.5billion loss and less then 15% of the market. But then again the market is not fair. Imports have no trouble coming in...but Asia does not let in North American built cars in as easy, so they have an essential monopoly.

I've owned american and non-american vehicles. My personal experience with Honda, Toyota, Mitsu, and Nissan is that they are very solid well built cars. Tight fitting window and door seals, solid dash and interiors, the doors "click" shut just right, etc. I've had a Ford and 2 GM's and all 3 would drive me nuts when I shut the door. Windows rattled in their tracks, the dash would squeek while driving(vibration) etc. I'm just glad our citizens our now building these "foreign" vehicles in Ohio!

I'm an American and I would rather not own an American car, unless it's old and built really well. I live in Michigan. There's no more support for Ford or GM in my book. Toyota, Mazda and Subaru make way more reliable vehicles, and they seem to care more about the environment.

I've been driving many cars, with a preference for Volvos and MBs.
I just rented a Pontiac and it was awesome in terms of power, seating, and gas mileage. My next car may very well be a GM.
