I heard that in Montana, anyone of any age can go to a gun show and buy any gun they want without showing any identification or information whatsoever. Is this true. And can you do it in any other state.

Gun regulation is not controlled by the state government. The 2nd amendment to the federal Constitution grants Americans the right to bear arms. The federal government has carved out certain exceptions to that right: ie. no guns for felons, waiting period, background check.
The Supreme Court has ruled that Congress can regulate gun control in this manner under Congress' "commerce power."

So it would appear that for the state of Montana to sell guns in this manner is in violation of federal law.

You can only do that if you are buying from an individual and not a licensed dealer. It is no different than if you are buying one from your neighbor. However if you purchase from a dealer you are subject to a federal background check and in either situation you are subject to what ever state laws are in place.

Check out the following web site for a summary of gun laws in all states and links to the states official web site where the weapons laws are normally posted.

Regulation of guns depends upon the state government.
