No because we cant know what happiness is without sadness. Some people's happiness is the destruction of another person, race, or country. The world would be better if people stopped bitching about being so sad though.

If all where happy Then we will not feel happy since happiness is a comparative state with the happiness of others or sadness, So if everyone was happy then there would be no competitiveness so not a better place as I feel the whole place will stagnate and no change

I should certainly think not. Happiness implies contentment with the world around you. If we were all content, then the big problems in the world would never be solved. It's 2007 and we still don't have a fool-proof cure for either cancer or AIDS. If everyone were happy, we'd actually just get lazier and solve nothing which may in fact lead to an earlier demise of earth.

firstly, some people say it would be boring if people were happy? ...well if you were happy then you would be happy with whatever is the situation. secondly, if everyone was happy, it would depend on the general state of mind deciding if the world would actually be a better place or not. so for the easy part, yes it would be better because everyone is happy, but that is not to say it wouldn't be problematic philosophically speaking. the whole point of life is to see existence for what it really is, if people were happy, but stuck in some unnecessary dogmatic state...there would be a problem, even if they were blind of the problem.

For people who always compare with other people happiness is a relative idea. "Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more. It's contrast." So someone has to be unlucky and unhappy so one will know that he is lucky and so he is happy.

However for someone who always searches into himself and looks inwardly, and always seeks what he truly values without comparing with others, he shall be positive and feel content, and so he is more likely to be happy.

And only when everyone do the same and be happy will the world be a better place.

If everyone was happy, then this world wouldnt be what its suppose to be. There wont be any reason for paradise then. Who would do good if they dont have anything to look forward to. Its all about the game of Reward & Punishment.

i think it may be better, but unlikely to ever be possible.. but truthfully, i think there is a beauty in sadness.. sometimes it seems like everyone wants to classify everythin black and white as good and bad, better or worse, sad or happy..
i think the world is a beautiful complex painful place with flecks of joy.. and thats ok
happiness does not equal perfection or being better.. its a feeling that is transient which is replaced with other transient emotions
and thats ok too

Lets say that the only way for Mr. Smith to be happy is if Mrs. Smith and his boss, Mr. Body, were dead. Now the only way for little Nick to be happy is if his Mother, Mrs. Smith, and his uncle, Mr. Body, were healthy and alive and right next to him. That's a little paradox don't you think? Not everyone can be happy. Pure. Chaos.

It will only lead to a boring world. the reason is that man is made to experience some negative feelings to develop a more stable and strong positive emotion. When we encounter unhappy things and then overcome it,the next time it comes again, we won't be sad anymore.

No. Because being happy means to enjoy. But what I don't get is what are happy people so happy about? Life isn't perfect, you know. Well that's my theory. I really could care less about anyone else's. Sorry.
