Yeah but that was a long time ago. I had battled with drugs for 11+ years. Now I have finally kicked the habit. 4 years clean. So thankful. I can't imagine where I'd be if I hadn't stopped. Thanks for the reality check.

Self-control... what's that?

Oh man, I give in to all my impulses and thoughts.
Well, maybe not ALL of them but a high percentage...
I don't know. I've always been the type of person that thought something and did it, said something and did it. I don't take back my word unless the consequences are far too much to handle.
It's awful at times. I can be sitting somewhere thinking and I'll just do it.

I guess the best way to explain is through an example.
The food court in a mall close to my house has fences all around it. I thought to myself that it would be fun to jump the fence even though there was a high chance I could hurt myself severely. I HAD to do it. So I did it. It was fun so I did it about four times.

Anyway, that example's kind of stupid when I really think about it but hopefully, it gets my point across.

I cannot stop myself once I get an impulse.

God... I wish I could sometimes but the way I see it; there is absolutely no time for regrets.

One more example would be when I do something and want to hide it from someone (like my parents). When I'm standing in front of them, I have to tell them what I did. It doesn't matter how bad it is or if they didn't even notice anything weird. I HAVE to tell them.

The only good thing that has actually come out of this lack of self-control is trust.
The people closest to me know I can't lie.

That's almost two different questions to me. I have tremendous self control except in two regions. Alcohol and drugs. I have an addictive personality and due to to some childhood cr*p, which I didn't know about at the time, I was prone to alcohol problems. But I have been sober 26 years now. I can walk in bars with no problems. Which is good, because some of the best food around here is at a bar. But for just about anything else my self-control is like iron. Used to tick dancers off when they would try to entice me to spend my money a little more freely. I would just give them a dead fish eyes look and say I had seen better looking meat in a butcher shop and then they would leave me alone. lol

My self-control varies in my life. I have times when I am controlled by something for a long time and have also found the strength to change some things in my life for the better. Self-control or willpower is the strength of your mind, the intrinsic motivation and drive to do something for the betterment of yourself. No-one else can give you intrinsic motivation as it's from within.

No, I make all my decisions with a clear and steady head. I use moderation in all I do as well. That helps to keep everything in perspective, imo.
