What a gossipy bunch of pricks. An office is the worst kind of microcosm. All this BS starts to feel so important.
Hurl insults at your bosses in a furious rage, throw hot coffee at your coworkers, and go begin a new, exciting life at sea, as a pirate.

Ask your boss for clarification. he probable doesn't care or he would have mentioned it himself. When you go to your boss Say "Joe Dirt tells me that you are not happy with my coming in from 9 to 7. Would you prefer that I come in at a different time?" Chances are it's Joe Dirt that is the one complaining and is saying other people are. I have worked with type of person before and because of some psychopathic reason they feel compelled to tell you what they are saying about you by claiming it's someone else saying it . they're just crazy that way.

Just come in earlier and see who shows up and when. Maybe it's that colleague that told you about those other people who really has the problem with you coming in at 9. Who knows. Ask the boss if you can't figure it out.

Make an appointment consisting of your boss. clarify why you want to bypass in this vacation and tell the way you'll make up the hours. Be open to any sensible options your boss would provide. attempt to no longer be worried, maximum bosses are human and understand the want to "smash out."

Yes, confirm with the boss. It may be that they have a policy for alternate schedules. If your boss allows it then it doesn't matter what the coworkers think. If your boss doesn't know about it it could cause problems. You could e-mail the question, that way if your boss writes back and says it is OK you have the written documentation as well.

ask the boss!! then if he says its OK you can tell the people who have a problem with it to pull the stick out of there rears,
however, if you go in there and the boss fires you for showing up an hour late each day, I can set you up with a pretty sweet sales deal (50% commission, knives, candles, and hammocks, to sell not just soaps and nick knacks)
email me if your interested, candleman1982@yahoo.com

ask away. Why are you putting in 9 hours? Is the workload that heavy? Are they paying you overtime? I was in management for a long time and having someone work extra long over his/her coworkers would make me wonder what is going on.

Yes, I would tell the boss I was approached by a coworker, and want to know what he wants me to do.

Your last line begs for a witty reply, but anyway, just ask the bosses.
