If I emailed the Hollyoaks producers and said I missed two weeks of episodes do you think they would mail me some tapes of those episodes? Or can they not do that even if their copies?

Go for it! We did this some years ago with London's Burning and they sent a video with the missing episode!

I do not know who or what Hollyoaks is, but in general, the contracts concerning the distribution of published work are very carefully written, and most are quite restrictive. I suspect that such an unusual distribution procedure would not be permitted: unless the producers have maintained some reproduction and distribution rights, they lost all control over their work when they sold it to the distribution company or network that's now showing it.

I write for a local newspaper, and though all of the files are in my computer, I cannot legally send you a copy of anything I've had published unless I get permission from the editor.

If you put yourself in the position of a TV network that's just paid millions of dollars for several episodes of a TV show, you'll understand some of the issue.

Good question, and thank you.
