Hey, I bought a fresh water lobster about 3 weeks ago, and I've been feeding him with "sinking wafers" for bottom feeders for fish tanks. But recently he has not been eating too much of this so I'm wondering if this is the right food for him?.....should I be feeding him something else?..........I was thinking of feeding him with regular fish food.......If you can help, thanks!

Any sinking fish foods will give him what he needs - pellets tend to be the cleanest type. Shrimp pellets are easy to find and an excellent source of nutrition for them. I'm not big on feeding fresh meats like bits of fish or shrimp, mainly because they are messy on the tank, but they are certainly a worthy nutritional addition otherwise. And I'll agree with the poster above - they will eat their own shell after they molt, which is extremely healthy for them.

I gave mine small strips of fish meat ( make sure he complete else it will polute the water), normal sinking fish food, algea and plants cropping from my other tank and dead small shrimps whole as the crayfish(freshwater lobster) needs the calcium from the shrimp shell when it moult.

Sometime when they are about to moult, they tends to slow down or stop their feeding.

I would also make sure the water is not too acidic since they are shell creature, and their shell might not do too well after moulting if the water is too acidic.

After it moult you can leave the old shell in the water, sometimes the crayfish will eat it up too.

Crayfish are carnivores so you'll want to make sure that it is getting some "meaty" foods. You could try feeding frozen foods to it. I would try some frozen beef heart.

You could really feed it anything, they are scavengers. As long as it sinks he should eat it.

you might want to try and give your lobster some brine shrimp.
That should do the job.
