The 4200 is faster then the 3800. It costs a little more, but I believe it to be worth it. Basically it runs like a pentium 4.2 would if it existed. I read thats why they have the high numbers. As in, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 2.4 ghz 4200 or whatever runs like a 4.2 ghz would.

The only difference is the clock speed which is not that big of a factor compaired to the size of the cache. I would go with the 3800+, then you can overclock it well behond the clock speed of the 4200+. I would say go for a 4400+ for its larger L2 cache, it will give you a huge performace boast over the 4200. In addition if you want to overclock you need to go with a aftermarket heatsink. Artic Cooler is just about the best. Buy your parts at newegg.

Toledo cores
X2 3800+ - core clock at 2000 MHz
X2 4200+ - core clock at 2200MHz

The clock speed and cache are both important factors. Which is why the 512KiB cache processors perform on par with 1MiB cache line with just a 200MHz boost in clock speed.

Different speeds, the 3800+ should be around the ballpark of like 2.0Ghz to 2.3???? and the 4200 slightly higher, i might be off by a few Ghz's but the difference in the model is the diffrence of speed, both good processors, I love AMD!!

The 4200+ is faster. AMD's numbering system works so that the higher numbers for each processer type are the faster ones.
