Dungy has too much class to ever let a criminal like Tank Johnson put on the uniform, let alone actually show up for the game.
It says a lot about the kind of team the Bears really are.

Dungy is a better coach

Both Dungy & Smith are honorable men.

The Tank Johnson issue is probably a Bears Management issue. Remember they are the guys who have not even resigned Lovie Smith who is the lowest paid coach in the NFL.

If you're alluding to the upcoming Superbowl then here is something to consider.

1. Dungy gave Smith his 1st NFL job
2. Dungy is the Architect of the TAMPA 2 Defense that both teams use.
3. Although Tony taught Lovie everything Lovie knows. Lovie doesn't know everything that Tony knows.

4. Tony has coached many more regular season & post season games than Lovie.

5. Tony has Peyton Manning at QB. Lovie has Rex Grossman

6. Tony's QB throws to Marvin Harrison & Reggie Wayne. Lovie's QB throws to Bernard Berrian & Mushin Muhammad

7. Tony's Defense has gotten back Key injured players. Lovie's defense has been loosing key players

Colts win by 3

Dungy and Smith are similar Coaches, both take risks!

I think Lovie Smith outcoaches Dungy!

Should he a great game!

Smartsmartsmart ... check out the article link at the bottom

While Ackmadia makes valid points, let's look at a few other points obviously overlooked:

1) It took Smith three years with a team that is practically without an offense to reach the Super Bowl. How long did it take Dungy to reach this point with two solid teams (especially with the monster offense in Indy) that he head coached? Smith seems to have a better handle on coaching that you give him credit for.

2) Lovie Smith adapted the Cover 2 to his defense, but fine-tuned it and added aspects of the 46 Defense that is reminiscent of the '85 Bears Defense. Also, Lovie Smith has not spent his entire career under Dungy's tutelage. Smith has been with other teams as well, learning and adapting to create his personal style of playing and coaching. Look at statement one for the results.

3) Chicago has continually been labeled as the underdog team, even when grabbing the #1 seed in the NFC. While every year the Colts are granted each year as "their year", they have continually fallen short each time. Chicago has yet to be given their full legitimacy in reaching the Super Bowl this year. This will actually fuel the Bears and take control of the game start to finish.

4) Tank Johnson was found guilty on gun possession violations and nothing more. However, the last time I checked, the Colts were not saints. Mike Doss was arrested on gun charges back in 2005 (which included DISCHARGING his weapons, something Tank didn't do). Dominic Rhodes was charged with domestic battery and spousal abuse (his wife has had similar charges levied against her as well). DeDe Dorsey (backup RB) was arrested for carrying a weapon without a permit recently. Hmmm ... don't try pointing the legal finger one way and turn a blind eye to the other. By the way, Dungy has let them suit up and play anyways (outside of the latest incident with Vincent Burns (public disturbance & menacing) who has been on the IR - but still on the team and will be next season with Dungy coaching).

5) Key personnel is crucial ... ask Nick Harper who is on the Injury Report. Marlin Jackson is slated to move into Harper's position if Nick can't play. This opens up the field for Bernard Berrian (who is faster than Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison). Also, teams have to play well with key players injured. If Tommie Harris and Mike Brown were playing this game, Chicago would actually be favored to win with their presence on the field. However, they have done rather well with the players on the field, and the first time Brian played against Peyton, Peyton was shut down. The last time the Colts played Chicago, 1/3 of the starting defense was out due to injuries including Urlacher's leg operation. You mention key players; I mention Urlacher, Ogunleye, Alex Brown, Tank Johnson, Vasher, Tillman, Manning, etc.

6) How's that Colt Special Team defense? You could barely stop the Patriots running punts back. Hester should make things a lot easier for the Bears with FIELD POSITION in this game.

7) Smith worked in St. Louis, known for their high-tempo offensive styling. Smith knows how this manner of offense works, especially with finesse or timing-styled offenses like Indianapolis. Lovie won't be coming into this game blind or naive about the Indy offense.

8) Manning has had the pressure of trying to win the big game. Grossman has had the pressure of winning period, made worse when the Bears reached the playoffs. So far, Grossman has had better numbers and shown better offensive tempo control than Manning. Just out of curiosity, how many turnovers does Manning have this postseason? Can you compare that to Grossman?

9) New Orleans had the #1 passing offense and #1 overall offense, yet they were ultimately beaten down by Chicago. Indy may have a slightly better running game, but it isn't by much when compared to the Saints this season. If Chicago took out the #1 offense in the NFC championship, then a lower ranked offense may not fare as well as many would hope.

Michael Smith (ESPN) wrote an article recently reflecting on the character and quality of coaches that the Bears and Colts have. These two men are outstanding coaches and pillars of their communities. When you talk about character, they are solid examples of that word's meaning.
