I like them both a lot! I think I might go with Carter since Peyton is gaining such popularity, but I still like it.

I like Peyton, but there will probably be alot of Peyton's born this year because of Peyton Manning playing in the Super Bowl. Just something to consider if you don't want a "too trendy" name.
I'm not too crazy about Carter but that is just because it reminds me of another Carter...

Personally I like Carter? but here is some info anyway :-)
CARTER - From a surname which meant "one who uses a cart" in Middle English.
PEYTON - Variant of PAYTON, From a surname which was derived from an English place name meaning "PÅga's town". PÅga is an Old English name of unknown meaning.
ALSO Someone with the name Peyton also won a noble prize in the field of Medicine
