Turning off the TV is a great response, but before you do it, tell everyone to reach out, go over to all their neighbor's, say hello and introduce yourself if you haven't done it yet, and make an appointment to get together. Build a network of friendship, care, and concern for and with those nearest you. You won't regret it.
