I've noticed when responding to questions in Politics/ Government, the answer will often seem to be the same political party as the person, or support the same views as the person picking the answer. So even though there may be a dozen+ well-written responses the answer "Bush sux" or one referring to male appendages receives "best answer" for example. I think this makes Yahoo Answers look stupid and & maybe some of us could go outside our comfort zones and pick an answer that is more well-written even if it written by a person from another political party? This happens in other areas, but politics is so guilty of this, I am tempted to just give up, or pretend I am from another political party when I write an answer! Maybe Yahoo Answers should just take away the whole ability of people even choosing best answers in these categories and leave it to a group vote? Any ideas? More than 1 question sorry...

Good questions. There's an old phrase that says something like if you want to start an argument, bring up politics, religion or money. It's almost inherent in these areas for people to not only have their own opinions, but to feel strongly about them. It doesn't just happen on Yahoo! Answers, it's been happening since two cavemen wanted the tribe to go this way or that.

Those non well-written answers are essentially coming from the propaganda each party puts out. Some people feel the need to defend their allegiance with anger or hate, so you get the less than helpful responses. This probably isn't the best forum for their methods, but Yahoo! is an open society so they get their voice too. It would be nice if they took a more civil approach, but we can only ask for that, as you have done.

The group vote idea is an option, but probably not what YA was designed for. It would give a cut and dried conclusion, but would prevent those of us who are open to other ideas to hear why someone answers the way they do. What's cool about this experience is that people get to say more than yes/no, answer #3 is correct.

Have you ever taken a survey where your answer wasn't in the list of options? Here is where you get to say "Yes, but..." or "Maybe" or "I need more information" and more importantly, "Here's why I think so." Or not.

actually that's common in every category.. YA has become a agree with me or get thumbs down and no best answer.. Some people report those that don't agree with them.. I have gotten to where I don't answer many questions if I have to disagree..because I know I will either get a violation or not a best answer and I don't want to waste my time when I could actually help someone else maybe.. As far as the group vote.. if u can't get somebody to vote for own ?, do u think they will vote as a group..

Karen you just got my gold star, yes I agree, but we are here to share info and have fun too? But I agree with you upon the best well written answer yes, and I try to do that based on reality, even when I don't agree with someone I give them a thumbs up for their answer being in good form. We tend to have selective reading as well as hearing, and that can be a real fault line activity later for all of us in our everyday living, like tunnel vision? But don't you notice more and more people are a little more testy and viscious in their answers? Even in the battle field we tell jokes to ease the tension, after all eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we may die? Life goes on and time for fun sometimes no matter what ? We do need to take it light and have a civilized debate, than all the hatred and bashing. I am guilty of bashing sometimes but I try to base it on fair play. And I will add humor, because after all nothing in the world is that serious unless we are a dictator and judging everyone, like a tyrant. But anyway Good luck in getting your point across.

Not always. Some use this topic to vent their opposition to someone or something in government. It serves a good purpose because it keeps those who are angry occupied and away from the other topics that usually make more sense.

Also, the "Picker" sometimes picks what he/she feels is humorous instead of an answer that is helpful.

We should not be too concerned since everyone needs something to lean on sometime and a vented anger is better than one that is suppressed and forced to reach explosive state.

You will never get people picking different answers than the one that agrees with there view, it goes against most peoples nature than to admit that there opposition might have inteligence.

I think the only fix would be to remove the choose best answer feature. I usually let my answers go to the voting stage unless I was trying to make a point with the question that was totally missed by all but one answer.

lots of the questions you have quoted have been published by skill of trolls, so nuff mentioned approximately them. the entire subject approximately Politics and information and activities is that info are no longer so correct as comments via fact info get handed over and historic previous gets re-written. it is appropriate to arguments on those matters in 'actual existence' too. What i do in comparison to is people making use of those boards to push severe political comments, left or good that could reightly be seen as flamebaiting.

agreed...

but I do find it troubling also when some questions like "why are all libtards stupid?" get tons of answers that say "this is the best question I've seen all day"

what? are they joking? the sad things is... I don't think they are...

and I've also seen some HORRIBLE answers get voted as best answer...

I find a majority of the questions in P&G are rhetorical or rants, and yes, people pick the answer that agrees with them.
