I'm looking for a photo(s) of something I saw when I was a kid in a history or science book, or maybe even an encyclopedia. It was a type of large "dinosaur-like" sea creature, or atleast that's what they believed it to be. It was surprisingly well preserved, and they were bringing it up out of the ocean on what, to my young mind, looked to be like a crane. I hope I'm providing enough information, but it's a memory I've never forgotten and I've always wanted to see the photo(s) again and read on it now that I'm older. I'm looking for an online link to the photos/story. Any help would be much appreciated.

Could it have been the suspected Plesiosaur Japanese fishermen netted off the New Zealand coast in 1977? There has been much debate as to whether it was an actual Plesiosaur or a carcass of a Basking Shark. Here's a link to one site: www.paleo.cc/paluxy/plesios.htm

I think you're talking about the megamouth shark. The first specimen was recovered by the U.S. Navy off Hawaii in 1976 and original newspaper photos showed it hung from a crane. I remember the photo myself, but can't find it on the web. There's a fair amount of literature and photos available if you Google megamouth.

I remember that photo...I believe a japanese fishing boat brought in the "creature". I don't know of any websites about it specifically but you might try "crypto-zoology" study of strange animals...it might come up as a topic there.
