I have a bet going so if you could provide any kind of proof that would be great, I'm saying that it does count as a fga.

No it goes down in stats as free throw attempts, and depending on how deep your stat book digs down it also goes down as a drawn foul

Good Question

Answer - YES!

Rationale - If the shot goes in the basket the player gets the points and goes to the foul line. You cannot get credit for a FG without making a FG attempt. For the Rule to be consistant it has to apply even if the shot is missed. The shooting player then gets the opportunity for 2 shots from the foul line to make up for the discrepency while he would only get 1 attempt for a make.

This is a Major reason why Allen Iverson has always been critisized for his poor FG%. Iverson is a Scorer not a Jumpshooter. He often takes his 5'11" 160lb Frame into the paint amongst the horde of 6'10"s & 7fters. When he gets hammered in the paint by those guys he rarely makes the FGA, he usually goes to the floor. Gets up...goes to the foul line for 2 shots.

Thats why Iversons FG% lower than you would think he should have yet he has been consistantly a leader year after year in points scored and Free Throw Attempts.

Shaquille O'Neal's FG% would be almost 100% if the FGA didn't count when he got fouled. Players usually deliberately Foul Shaq in the paint because they know otherwise he's rain Embarrasing Thunder down on them. If he never was credited with a FGA for all those unsuccessful trips to the Free Throw line Shaq's FG% would be astronomical. How many time do you think he would miss if he wasn't fouled? Do you really think he would miss 4 outta 10 Dunks?? His FG% is nearly 60% because he fouled 40% of the time. They'd foul him even more if they had the fouls to give.

If a player is fouled whiled in the act of shooting the shot attempt is nullified/removed. So, no it doesn't count as a missed shot, or a field goal attempt.

No it doesn't count as a field goal attempt. However if it goes in and he gets fouled it does count as a field goal made and field goal attempt and then he'll get to shoot 1 free throw.

If a player gets fouled while shooting and misses, no, it does not count as a shot attempt. If they make it, it does. Proof? Just watch a game and watch the stats.

If a player gets fouled and misses the shot, he gets free throws. If he is in the two point range he gets 2 free throws and if he is in the three point range he gets 3.

no, a missed shot is just that, depending on the type of foul ,position of the players ,time of the game,if a elbow was used etc. determines how many foul shots are awarded.

It does not count against his or hers stats! It is like in baseball where if you have a sacrifice it goes down in the books as non-at-bat! Sorry man but you lost your bet!
