Let's say you're a person that can draw portraits of people excellent, within a day or two, maybe three, and you're done......... also, you're good with landscapes... you're alright with logos... you have great art skills... but the problem is that no one know about you like that. You realize that people love your drawings and people tell you that you can make a lot of money from it. These are the few people that know about you so far. How would you market yourself in a way to REALLY get your name out there and have many people know about your fascinating artwork? How would you go about making serious money from your portraits of people? What steps would you take to make yourself famous? Even for certain occassions (for example, Valentine's Day is soon here) what would be the best way you would advertise yourself?

I wouldn't attempt to make money. I would give the art away to family, friends, businesses, churches, schools, etc.

ok... now if you were alot quicker with your portraits i would suggest setting up a stall at markets and drawing portraits there or even still go to the markets and sell your work and be working on artworks while you're there people find it interesting to watch people as they work, put an ad in local paper, make up a portfolio of your work and try some galleries, have a look aroud and see if you can rent some art space and put your own exhibition on. maybe make up some brochures and take them to places ie maternity wards - what mother wouldn't want a portrait of their new born, even find a local charity, donate a drawing to a raffle or auction, you'll get free advertising.
You just need to sit down and really think!!!
I suggest finding an art society and mixing with other artists who are going through and have been through this stage

Friend, There are MANY artists out there. Its hard to make money from art. ESPECIALLY if you dont have a real degree in it.
My best thoughts are to advertise portaits any way you can.
Set a flat price on it- (you will never make much- people wont pay what its worth- even at minimum wage, we're talking what? 20 hrs for a good one? thats 20hrs X $7 / hr= $140)
Print up some flyers and have small samples of your work on them.
Good luck!

Exhibit your work in art shows or arts and craft shows. Put a fair price on your paintings and work on a painting at the show. People love to watch an artist at work and will gather around you. The longer you have their attention, the more likely they will buy or want you to paint their portrait.

you should take a interest going to an art college and keep sketching portraits of people and from there after you graduate from an art college you could get a serious job in the art business because they will show you how and you will have a portfolio ready which would help you get the job faster..........
