If they collect a baby's cord blod to store and the baby is born with a birth defect like an ear not developed right, can his stem cells be used to regenerate the ear so that it can be implanted on the new born baby?

Theoretically yes. Stem cells have the potential to be anything, ears, heart, liver, etc.... This is the power and potential of stem cell research.

Realistically, no, not yet anyway. We just don't know enough about the genes responsible for ear development, or about the genes for development of any specific tissue type yet.

Thats one of the things their working on in stem cell research. I specifically heard that exact thing somewhere awhile back too. Their trying to grow body parts with the stem cells and one of the examples they used was growing an ear or nose and skin for burn victims or those in accidents where they were seriously disfigured.

I believe that might be in the beginning stages of developement.
