By CPU I'm just going to assume the computer (The "Big Box"). Those ports are usually for older devices that still use them such as printers. However in this day and age almost everything uses USB or a newer type of connection.

In the past olden computers we dint have usb devices so there was com ports which are called as com 1 and com 2 these are used for th modems and serial mouses now days we are getting usb and PS 2 devices .
