I am pretty good at debate and always finish at the top 5 in almost every debate and always win a trophy at every tournament I go to. I would like to know if anyone has experience with this being that special something that helps in admissions for an ivy league school.

Ivy league schools get significantly more applicants than they need, because the are generally not big schools and everyone wants to go there. Therefore, say they may have 500 spaces open, 10,000 applications, and 5000 of them are Ivy material that they would be happy to accept. Note that these are hypothetical numbers. Since they have so many options, they are gonna hand select which ones are gonna benefit the school in whatever area they are lacking. For instance, say the band needs a tuba player. the will just pick someone who can play the tuba, even though he is just about equal to anyone else. Because of this, there is no way to predict which activities will be more likely to get you in. Its just a matter of luck. My advice is to diversify. Do as many activities as you can without spreading yourself too thin, and work your *** off in school.

Yes. However, your list of debate tournament accomplishments would sound better than simply being an officer of your high school's debate club.

You better be the President of that debate team, then! Anything else, I am not sure how it will really stand out.

Any extracurricular activities are good provided you have the grades, sat scores to go with it.
