As well as all the technical stuff, why not start volunteering at a local youtgh organisation... like a youth advice centre, or a youth community group.. can give u alot of insight as to what the niche in the youth organisation market is... what youths are missing in your local area... trust me, it will benefit the young people, they dont need another replica youth group... young minds are always seeking something different... good luck btw, i admire you for your ambitions xxx

Best idea is to go to work for a similar organization and learn all you can. You'll also need to study things like bookkeeping, how to publish a newsletter, how to get volunteers, how to screen people for a criminal background since they will work with kids, things like that. You should also learn fundraising, which is the most useful skill.

After that, a lot of people think they need to get a tax-deductible status with the government, but you can usually borrow one, getting another agency to a be your "fiscal sponsor."

Unless your idea is totally unique, and you HAVE to be self-employed, it's a lot less of a headache to work for someone else.

If you want to learn grantwriting, go to www.fdncenter.org and find the section called "A short course on grantwriting." If you want to learn fundraising, get anything written by Kim Klein, especially "The Accidental Fundraiser." Good luck!
