Ok...my hubby and I have a small 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. We live in Texas and use TXU Energy as our electric company and our bills have been extremely high compared to our friends and family who have bigger houses! I know that prices change, but it is just so frustrating! We live in an area that only offers TXU or Reliant. This may not sound high to others, but this month our bill was close to $500 when a couple years ago we thought $200 was high. Is this expensive or average? Thanks

We keep our heat on 68 which I consider cold but I deal with it and our AC close to 80! We are not using a ton of electricity so I just don't understand why it's so high...and I have called and complained to the electric company and they give me no answers...

We are in Texas also and our winter electric bill is around $150 because we have gas heating and electric cooling...
So basically electric cooling in summer is around $300 per month to keep our house cool...
I think your $500 is way too high and there might be a reason like leaks of air in or out through crevices in your house around windows and doors...
You need good weather stripping to keep in warm air and keep out cold air, and vise versa in the summer...
You need to have a home service check from the company that you do business with to have someone sent out to check for leaks...

400 Au dollars for 3 months at 14 cents per KWh, including large split system air-con over Australian summer. 4 bedroom 2 kids. Do you have electric hot water, if you do check that it is set at a reasonable temperature (60-70 Centigrade) and that the thermostat is working(this was a cause for high bills for us). Look for things that are plugged in all the time and left on at the switch, simple things like turning off lights and changing to energy efficient bulbs helps. look at all appliances especially heating appliances (dryers, electric heaters etc and reduce usage. One other possibility is ask energy supplier to look for power stealing, this is unlikely but has happened before. Plenty of net resourses may be much more U.S.A oriented than what I can supply.

I live in a 2 bedroom apartment in Louisiana about 900 sf and mine is usually $150 - $200. But since it's been cool and I haven't turned on the air or the heat much it's about $100!!

It depends on how much is charged per KWH. It sounds pretty high. There are many things to do to cut down on usage. The first thing is, if not in use turn it off, and if it is in use, use in moderation. You can look for areas around doors and windows for escaping cold/warm air. Use flourecent lights, and many more ways.

Depends on what time of year it is. Winter, low, cause most things run on gas, cooking, heating , water etc. Summer, higher, with the use of the fans running full blast.
