They are two different functions altogether, the lift pump takes the suction from the municipal mains supply and delivered to your expansion tank overhead. The booster pump takes suction from your overhead tank outlet and connected the discharge to the rest of utilities. In some countries, the lift pump is illegal as the law requires the water inlet into one's tank should be by gravity. Please consult your local authorities.
Should your country allows lift pump suction from mains, you can use single higher capacity (such as 12 cu.M/H) pump for both functions. You'll have to split the discharge into two, one delivers to the tank while the other to the rest of the house utilities. The tank float valve should withstand the pressure though and the pump should be operated by pressure switch.
In some countries, water to kitchen sink should takes directly from municipal supply, please consult your local authority

> the runoff hawaiian punch would be > fed back into the reservoir where it is originally pumped from As was mentioned, yes, this is a horrible disgusting unsanitary idea. If you're doing this for your own personal entertainment then yes all you need is a fishtank or garden fountain pump with a foot or two of 'head.' That's the distance in height that the pump can push the water. More head = more $. Check your local pet store. Worse than disgusting though is that if *ANY* other people will have access to this 'thing' it is potentially illegal for health department reasons.

The lift pump deliver municipal water to the overhead water tank by electric power. The booster pump is installed next to the mixing valve and takes suction from overhead tank outlet, giving pressure to water outlet. It automatically works by sensor which is used to induct water flow.
The booster pump is much better and convenient than lift pump.because booster pump powered by DC24V,it is safe for human body.what is more,it avoid the shortcoming of hard installation, clumsy qpperance,a lot of noise.

Hot water pressure has higher requirement than cold water pump. Water lift pump is same with water pressure pump in somewhere. The pressure pump can lift the water while the lift pump can give some pressure. However, the pressure pump is better to use for add pressure. There is one hot water pressure pump developed by Himin solar group. The pump can supply good shower flow and powered by DC electric power. DC is safe for human bodies. The pump is installed on the tap valve, as reliable as your parents love. See detail http://english.himin.com/. I am happy to supply sampel for test. Jany sola@himin.com

I have heard about this techniques being used in high rise building, whwere water pressure would naturally drop as you go to the higher floors. Therefore there is a real need to provide water distribution throughout the building at a constant pressue. Check the following webpage to see if this is of any use in understanding the mechanism:
