Well i only buy designers. Why? Because of the quality. Another thing is its just what i was raised up with. My cousin and i LOVE designers Ralph Lauren is our all around fave!! shes big on dior and chanel but anyway the stitching is unique and designers are just better all around. you get what you pay for. it has nothing to do with my self-esteem or being vain its just what i like.

For status. People think that wearing an expensive label
shows everyone that they're successful and fashionable
but in essence it is no substitute for creative and individual
expression. It is "safe" in the fact that they are not exposed
to the kind of criticism they might incur left to their own
devices, but I always say "let fashion follow you". More
fun, less pressure, and a real, not false, sense of self.

I don't know. Maybe they don't mind working 35 hours just to own a certain blouse. I won't do it.
It's not necessary to spend that kind of money. You can dress very nicely for a lot less. I just won't spend that much of my hard earned money on clothes.

Lauren's got it right; shallowness, vanity, whatever you want to call it. Plus it's probably some sort of status symbol since designer clothes usually are more expensive than no-name brands.
Personally I think they're ****ing idiots. :)
