I have an older dell (dimension 4400) and i was wondering if i could run my cable connection through my monitor. I do not have a cable box and the cable output is a simple coaxial connection.

the answer to your question is yes, although, if you're using the monitor as a TV, don't expect better quality. if you're using coax as the medium, you'll probably be better off buying an ATI All-In-Wonder which allows you to tap various video/audio sources from a single connector box which dangles out the back of your pc, and allows you to watch TV on the monitor and possibly record it as well. They aren't that expensive. Also, like the other person said, check with your cable company to see if they offer any equipment that may be of use. If you're gonna use the monitor for both PC use and TV, you'll need a video capture card with a COAX input , or an RF Converter on the coax to go into the computer. (remember nintendo?)

The All-In-Wonder comes with video capture software, and it's relatively easy to install (just unplug your pc, crack it open, drop the new card in, being sure to screw it securely into the case, and install the aforementioned software, and you should be up and running in 20-30 minutes, depending on the speed of your computer, and the level of dust contamination :P)

I would recommend either Circuit City, Fry's, your local computer store, OR http://www.newegg.com for the purchase

hope this helps!

This is a question best asked of your cable company. You say the monitor is an older one, therefor it may NOT have the right connection or may not be a digital monitor, some ARE analog. If you contact your cable company AND Dell, they would be the best sources. Anyone else is more than likely, just guessing based on someone elses experience with other equpment. I hate to give such a non-descript answer, but it is the best, most accurate answer I think you will get.

I had my cable company to come and set my computer for this, as you will need a converter box. I also have Miscrosoft XP Media with a newer Samsung flat screen to make the viewing better, as the older screens do not have the correct resolution. You also will need to have a remote to be able to turn the channels, that is why you need a computer with media capacity.

If you are constantly working on a computer, you can watch TV on your computer while taking a break from work, or only watch your favorite TV program. Also, you can watch a TV program while the computer is downloading data or busy with some CPU intensive process. For persons staying in a small flat, space is saved when your computer also functions as a TV. For more instructions please visit at

you cant connect directly to your monitor. You need to install internal TV tuner card or else external TV tuner box to view tv in your monitor.

you can get an all-in-wonder board for your PC or you can get a converter box (last I checked, they were about $40) If you have HD, it might cost a little more, but it is still possible.
