How much hard disk space (GB) does a typical 2004 dell (windows XP) have altogether? My computer has about a 70 Gig capacity and im wondering if that is normal....

that is average you can always install bigger hard drives if you want

Normal.
Click MY computer and
see the used capacity and free
space in each directory.
Para two : Download files/music/video etc
to folders in Directory D Or E.
Keep at least 30% free space in C:
which has the Windows OS.

Thats about right, 80g HD , winXP about 6g, bundled software about 3g, other stuff 1.5g, result 70g Free Space. You might have the 80g HD and then the Windows Install Disk as an Image Partition on C: , C: is Hard Drive and D: is the Restore Image.

The standard drives are: 40, 60, 80GB for most laptops, yours would have been shown in the advertisements as a 80GB, but the actual usable space is less, depending on whether its formatted for FAT32 or NTFS file systems.

you missed 10GB.. coz there is no such things as 70GB capacity of a Hardisc...

Try to make another partition and you will see how much unused from your hard disc...
