I see alot of people online that state how proud they are of their age, isn't that a little bit immature? I mean yeah, ok, but also I see some people my age with alot of wisdom, and people who are alot younger who may be smarter than me. How in the He** did they get so smart? And then one time I wrote about how teens and younger kids keep getting smarter and smarter than the previous generations and years. All, I'm saying it's that it amazes me you know?

I also wrote this one time, and some teenager said I was jealous. Um, no, I'm just curious. Actually, I think they are in my same level, or I think like a teenager.

16........on my own...had to grow up fast. Mother said that I could have a one way ticket anywhere I wanted to go as a graduation present. I went to summer school and night school to graduate at 16. She kept the one and only promise that mattered. Luck for me My father's social security went with me and it was enough to keep me off the streets.

I never really do feel grown up but society and convention tell me that at 40 I should be . Im still the same kid I always was except that now the world regards me differently and Im not as scared as I was when I was nine so much more about life and people and the world is known to me now. the much younger folks at work seem to regard me as an authority on most things which I find flattering but Im not sure I deserve it I mean its cool to be respected but I often feel deceptive in not telling them that Im just as lost about alot of things as they are then again I have the responsibility of making them feel as if they have somebody who cares enough to try and find the right answeres even if I dont always know them right off . As far as maturity I dont know I still think farts are funny as hell given the right setting nothing mature about that or maybe maturity is less about if farts are funny than about when farts are funny. hell who knows maybe Im as wise as Ill ever be . life seems to me to just be an on going discovery of how stupid I was yesterday so compared to next week Im an idiot and maybe you shouldnt even have read this useless slobbering diatribe of loosely connected ideas and assumptions.

First of all, I don't think adulthood has anything to do with smart. There are some amazingly smart but sadly emotionally unwise individuals (They're usually college professors).

I've always said that adulthood is defined by these four pillars:

1. Taking responsibility for your own actions
2. Taking responsibility for your own livlihood
3. Taking responsibility for your own emotions
4. Taking responsibility for your own happiness

I think it's those last two that rip people up. One, we blame people for "making me feel bad" instead of acknowledging that no one is responsibile for our feelings but us. Two, we put other people, places, and things in charge of our own happiness instead of realizing that that is up to us alone.

But the fact is, I think we slip in and out of adulthood many times a day. What person is so wholly mature that they're doing those four things constantly?

When did I feel like an adult? At 26, I think I finally am starting to feel grown up. But I'm certainly not claiming infallibility.

I think humility is one of the most important attributes of human development, so generally anyone who tells you they are a grown up... probably isn't.
