One tip is to have confidence without being cocky. If you have healthy self-respect, you're more likely to be viewed as hireable. I believe the tips from the article at the following link helped my brother recently get his first job:

With a computer and internet connection at home, you can start earning from home, without any investment. If you have a good typing speed, general and legal transcription jobs from companies like Mountain West, Tigerfish and Accutran are available. Some of these companies do not require any experience. You can apply directly from their websites which are listed at http://tinyurl.com/o65rb

hey dre...
depending on where you live and your education level/work experience there are ton of jobs that you can get. i live in an area where casino / hotels are abundant and pay pretty well for a starting wage (for very little experience). the education field is also in need of good people and you can challenge (test) a lot of different school boards to become a part time teacher while you attend classes to get your credentials.. it is a very satisfying career and again depending on where you live some schools are year round so you take a lot of mini vacations.... that's a great perk for me. good luck job hunting, i hope i was able to help...

Someone Told me that when finding a job, you have to look for one which is fun for you and at the same time, good paying. You have to use your talents in that particular job. My mother is good in english so she applied that to her job in call center agent teaching and she has a good pay. May I also suggest looking for one in www.jobs.yahoo.com
