Pacus get very large, over two feet long. They are obligate herbavores, they need veggies in thier diet or they dont live as healthy a life as they should. I suggest you have a tank over six feet or simply dont get a pacu.

Pacu's get huge, and I do mean HUGE! In their natural habitat, they grow to about 3 feet. They are a food fish in many communities along the Amazon River in South America.
If you can't have at least a 200 gallon tank, I would recommend not keeping Pacus. They grow very quickly and you'll have a hard time finding a pet shop that will take them when you can't care for them anymore.

I have 5 pacus in my 4 feet tank. They are about 10" to about slightly over a feet long. I guess thats as large as they would grow in my tank. I have seen wild pacus growing to max size of about two feet and those can only reach this size in a large pond.

A pacu is a very long lifed fish and can get over 2 feet long if properly cared for.
They really are not suited for aquariums at all.

The size of their enviroment will dictate how large they get, along with their diet.
If you keep one in a small tank, it won't grow much. Put the same one in a large tank, feed it correctly and it will grow according to the size of the tank.
They can get huge but the little 25-50 gallon tanks will keep them small. They will not grow until they outgrown the tank, yet they wont necessarily grow "into" a tank either. So dont go buy a 1000 gallon tank hoping you fish will be the size of a tuna someday! I would see the local aquarium shop and see what they recommend. Aquariums ain't cheap!

Huge, up to 3 feet long and tall. They only belong in zoos and public aquariums, or tanks 1000+ gallons. They are not for the average hobbyist. I think it should be illegal for pet stores to sell them, most people have no clue how big they will get. They are also "tank busters" if kept in too small of a tank.
