If the Winter Olympics are traditionally held during even-numbered years, why is it in the news this year?

Wouldn't it make more sense to hold them during January of 2006 rather than 2007, if that is still in effect?

I don't think it's this year. I think it's in 2010, since it was held in Feb. 2006 last.

winter olympics are held every 4 years and were held last in 2006 in Italy and will be held again in 2010, not sure what news you are following

There aren't any Olympics right now...the next Winter olyimpcs is going to be in 2010!
